The HF-01S is a small size standard plate type heat flux sensor. It is an ideal option for research and engineering applications as well as manufacturing control and monitoring processes.
The HF-01S Standard Plate Type Heat Flux Sensor has brought heat flux measurement applications to a new level. With a century of history and over 50 years of heat flux sensor manufacturing experience, EKO presents the HF-01S. This sensor represents a leap in thermal measurement precision. The standard, sensitive, fast-response, all-around sensor allows you to measure heat flux as accurately and precisely as possible.
Thanks to its small size and thin body, the disturbance of the sensor on the actual heat flow is minimized — bringing you one step closer to the true values of heat flux. In addition to its measurement-related benefits, the tiny, lightweight body allows easy installation without the risk of falling off. The limited surface area also minimizes the chance of air gaps between the sensor and the measurement surface. Manufactured carefully in Japan and passing the most critical quality tests, this sensor is built to last.
Features: Why Choose the HF-01S Heat Flux Sensor?
The HF-01S benefits from a unique combination of characteristics that are very hard to find together in one product: size and sensitivity. Sensitive sensors are often either large in area or thick in body — both of which are disadvantages in terms of accuracy and practicality. Small sensors, on the other hand, usually offer low sensitivity. Despite this inverse correlation, the HF-01S offers the best of both.
It comes with a nominal sensitivity of 55 µV/Wm² in a compact body of 2.4 × 2.5 × 0.2 cm³. Made according to the ISO 9869 standard with facings and a guard that is five times the thickness, it is the best choice for building physics applications. With a response time below 2 seconds, you can capture quick changes in heat flow. It also features a wide temperature range of -30˚C to 100˚C and a heat flux range of 10 kW/m².
Applications
The combination of minimal interference, high sensitivity, fast response, low thermal resistance, water resistance, and a wide measurement range makes this sensor suitable for various applications — from quick thermal conductivity testing and heat transfer coefficient estimation to surface heat flux monitoring and more.

Installation
Installation is easy and straightforward but crucial for accurate measurements. Poor installation can lead to data that does not represent actual conditions. We recommend following ISO 9869 installation practices: use thermal contact material and mask your sensor so it appears as part of the object being measured.
At EKO, all heat flux sensors are calibrated carefully according to the ASTM C1130 Standard. We use a Heat Flow Meter Apparatus in compliance with ASTM C518 and ISO 8301. Check your sensor’s calibration certificate for detailed calibration conditions.
