Henkel India Speeds up with the HC-10

Henkel India

Henkel is a global brand, working with partners and innovative technologies in the adhesives and beauty care sectors. Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies business unit is a leader in the adhesives, sealants, and surface treatment markets, covering Packaging & Consumer Goods, Transport & Metal, General Industry, and Electronics.

Goal

Product Development Scientists at Henkel India contacted EKO Instruments in September of 2021 to find out more about our range of Thermal Conductivity Testers, and how they could help Henkel to assess their products and applications. Dr. Mihirkumar Patel, Principal Scientist at Henkel India, explained that the team wanted to measure thermal conductivity for a range of materials as a part of their research and development processes.

They were looking to cure composites of thermoset epoxy, acrylates, polyurethane, and silicon materials with varying sizes (100 gms to 5kgs), thickness (1mm to 100mm), and conduct tests with a measuring range of 0.3 to 4 W/mK.

HC-10 Thermal Conductivity Tester

After hearing more about Henkel’s specific needs, our team recommended the HC-10. The HC-10 is designed to rapidly inspect the thermal performance of tested materials via surface area heat loss. It works by measuring thermal conductivity indirectly, against a standard reference sample with a known thermal conductivity value or one measured by another thermal conductivity measuring device. In just 60 seconds, as per the ‘Quick λ’ moniker, the HC-10 estimates thermal conductivity by comparing the calibration curve based on the reference sample and the output value from the sensor.

Measurement Principle

The sensing probe, made up of a heater and temperature sensor, proportionally measures the heat loss through the sensor and insulating material. The intuitive design of the sensing probe makes it simple to pick up and use.

It’s a straightforward, but powerful tool in the lab, speeding up otherwise time-consuming tasks. When we asked Henkel about their experience with the HC-10, Lead Executive – Product Development, Dr. Ramya Nair had this to say:

“The Quick λ HC-10 is an easy-to-use, stable, and portable thermal conductivity tester. We now use it regularly in our product development lab for measuring the thermal conductivity of a wide range of materials that have different heat sink applications. The device gives reliable results for materials ranging from polymer composites to metal ceramics.”

She goes on to mention EKO’s “prompt support and timely assistance addressing all our instrument-related queries.”

At EKO, we strive to provide comprehensive support, guidance, and solutions to meet customer needs. We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mihirkumar Patel, Dr. Ramya Nair, and the team at Henkel India for reaching out and sharing their fascinating work with us. We look forward to hearing about the team’s future goals, and we’ll be right there to provide the solutions to meet them.
